If you have found a lost animal, is the animal in a contained area? Yes or No?
If No and you cannot catch the animal, then DO NOT Complete this form. Immediately call the Douglas County Animal Shelter at 770-942-5961 to report the animal is running loose in your neighborhood.
If you have the animal in a contained area, but are not able to keep the animal for any length of time, then please take the animal to the Douglas County Animal Shelter located at 1755 County Services Rd – Douglasville, GA 30134 (770-942-5961). The Shelter is located at the entrance of the County Landfill.
If you have the animal contained and can keep the animal, before completing the online information form, you need to call the Shelter at (770-942-5981) to report that you have found this animal. The owner may have already reported the animal missing or will report it missing in the near future. With your information, the Shelter will have this information to reunite the animal with its owner.
If the Shelter has no report of this missing animal, please take the animal to any local Vet’s office, the Shelter or Pet Things Store in Douglasville to have them check to see if the animal has an implanted microchip that can tell who the owner is.
If the dog has a rabies tag, by calling the Vet Clinic listed on the tag, they should be able to tell you who the owner is.
If you have done all of the above with no luck and want the Douglas County Humane Society to help you in trying to locate the animal’s owner or in finding a new home for the animal, we can help by email our vast network of volunteers the information on the found animal, add the animal to our Pet Finder’s site, put information on Facebook and other social networking sites for you.
We cannot guarantee success in either finding the original owner or finding the animal a new home, but we will try. Please complete the online questionnaire and press the submit button to begin the process.
